Vintage Conditions: 2025 will be remembered for a near perfect, condensed growing season. Weather was balanced and yields were healthy with low disease pressure which is a rare combination. Budburst had favourable conditions with good soil moisture during Spring from Winter rains. This resulted in a healthy green canopy which proved essential for keeping the grapes protected from the afternoon sun during the hot spell in early February. During this warm weather, fruit ripened quickly and we harvested all grapes in the last week of February, earlier than average. This ideal growing season really set our grapes up for a strong and healthy harvest with thick skins, high natural acid and concentrated fruit.

Winemaking: Each clone on our single vineyard site was hand picked separately at optimal ripeness. Fruit was destemmed without crushing and elevated into small open fermenters. The whole berry must was left to cold soak for 3 days before beginning fermentation. A portion of the MV6 and Pommard clone was whole bunch fermented, wrapped up for a ten day carbonic maceration. Fermentation temperatures peaked at around 32°C and the cap was plunged up to 2 times per day. After fermentation was complete, the must was gently pressed and transferred into French Oak puncheons (25% new, 10% second use, 65% older) where MLF occurred before winter. The wine was left to mature in oak on lees before being bottled late December 2024, 11 months after harvest.

Nose: Aromas of wild strawberry, raspberry, five spice, nutmeg and floral components in this vintage are particularly lifted and vibrant. 

Palate: The earlier harvest and warmer summer has resulted in a full bodied, red fruited, refreshing wine. blood. The palate is dark fruited with plum and blackberry. There is a savoury edge complimenting the structured, dark chocolate like tannins.

Just-ripe cherry, plum sauce, and Sichuan pepper dominate the soft entry to the palate, with an added layer of confected fruit and spice from the whole bunch component. Lattice like tannins define the structure and are well integrated, carrying the wine to great depth. There is an intriguing savoury character to the wine, but the finish is all fruit sweetness that will fill out more over time.

Small bunches and berries have resulted in intensely concentrated fruit flavours and fine velvet tannins. Cherry, strawberry and black berry flavours.

The fine grain tannins and well defined structure carry the fruit sweetness well with great length.

A mild and relatively dry winter and spring resulted in ideal flowering and fruit set indicating a large potential crop.

The most elegant Pinot we have produced to date yet retaining lovely palate structure. The flavours are similar to the aromas with fruit and oak in balance. The entry is soft and fills out in the middle palate with soft sweet fruit and fine tannins towards a lingering finish.
